PONTIFLEX IS A BRIDGE THAT CONNECTS AND A GATE THAT OPENS
Shortly after their reception by Queen Elisabeth, I met two Scottish W.W. II veterans aboard a ship on London's River Thames. Among other millitary operations, these gentlemen took part in the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp in Bergen Belsen, Germany, where my Grandfather had been deported from Budapest, Hungary. This photograph was taken near the pillars of Tower Bridge, the World's most well known bascule bridge or "pontiflex".

The building that was used as a convention centre for the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (MSZMP), today houses the Hungarian Treasury. As a member of our school choir during the mid' 1980's, I had to sing here at a Party Conference, in the very presence of János Kádár, then head of the Party and the country's first man. The rounded building behind with the communication tower is the new Headquarters of the National and Budapest Police.
